Un sueño sin noche

A Dream Without Night presents ceramic works by Naomi Gamarra (Geneva, 1999) that explore a speculative archaeology of care, memory, and transmission. Using materials such as hair and lice, Gamarra weaves together biographical, historical, and mythological narratives. The exhibition centers on delousing—not merely a hygienic act, but a gesture of daily care with social and emotional resonance. In many cultures, this intimate practice fosters trust, closeness, and shared stories. Gamarra reimagines these scenes, proposing a community of “lousy” beings who transform, connect, and care for one another. Rooted in her childhood memories of sharing hair care rituals with her mother and her “comadres,” Gamarra reflects on the body as a collective space and delousing as a form of communal affective labor. Braided hair, reinterpreted ceramics, and hybrid figures explore lice as symbolic carriers—agents of migration, memory, and even information about ancient communities. Drawing inspiration from pre-Columbian Moche ceramics, which depict domestic and ritual scenes, Gamarra speculates on these gestures from an intimate, contemporary perspective. Hair emerges as a trace of feminine bonds and intergenerational cohabitation, turning the body into a living archive where the biological and symbolic merge.
