Ayla Tavares: Earendel
LAMB Gallery presents Earendel, the first UK solo exhibition by Ayla Tavares (b. 1990, Rio de Janeiro), inspired by the discovery of the universe’s most distant star. Exploring connections between archaeology, sacred artifacts, and cosmic events, Tavares showcases four series of ceramic reliefs, graphite drawings, and sculptural installations, reflecting how objects, like celestial bodies, hold traces of time and memory. The exhibition unfolds across three sections: materia materia, examining clay’s layered histories; constellations or building a sandcastle, linking celestial myths to material forms; and sonante 15, exploring ceramics’ sonic and tactile dimensions. Drawing from astronomy, archaeology, and personal narratives, Tavares blurs the boundaries between the terrestrial and cosmic, offering a poetic meditation on time, memory, and materiality.
