SP-Foto – São Paulo Photography Fair reaches its 13th edition consolidating its position in the city calendar as the main photography event. Between 21st and 25th August, the fair occupies the whole events area of JK Iguatemi with the main galleries from this artistic market, such as Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Galeria Marcelo Guarnieri, Galeria Lume, Luciana Brito Galeria, Silvia Cintra + Box 4, SIM Galeria and Vermelho. Almeida e Dale
Traditional exhibitor of SP-Arte in April, the São Paulo Gallery participates in the event focused on photography for the first time. For this first run, Almeida e Dale draws a parallel between the production by the French Brazilian Jean Manzon, one of the pioneers of photojournalism in Brazil, and Luiz Braga, from Pará. While Manzon participates with a series shot during expeditions to indigenous tribes — the images were originally presented in the magazine O Cruzeiro, in the 1940s and 1950s — Braga exhibits work from 1980 and 1990 where he brings up the everyday life of the riverside people from the Brazilian North, classical theme of his production. All the editions presented are vintage.
Carcara Photo Art
In partnership with the habitué MaPa, Carcara Photo Art – platform dedicated to photography, with magazine, book store and gallery focused on this artistic language – presents vintage editions of works featured in one of the most important Brazilian collections, Kim Esteve’s. Taking part in this collection, works by renowned international artists, such as Helmut Newton, personal friend of the collector, Barbara Leary, David Drew Zingg, Duane Michals, James Stewart-Granger, Larry Clark and Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Among the Brazilian artists stands out Valdir Cruz, photographer born in Paraná, established in the United States since the 1980s.
Galería Zielinsky
Participating in SP-Arte last edition in April 2019 for the first time, the Barcelona-based gallery returns to Brazil in August for SP-Foto. Featured among the booth highlights are works by Uruguayan Yamandú Canosa, who represents the South-American country at the Venice Biennale. The artist investigates – through different media, from collages to photography – an extended concept of landscape, inviting the spectator to inhabit such horizons, often imbued by images and words. His intention is to employ these aspects in order to discuss themes such as migration and cultural identity. The gallery also presents other international photographers, for instance Spanish Antoni Abad and Pachi Santiago, and Brazilian Leonardo Finotti and Eduardo Marco, the latter with a series shot in Laos, in South-East Asia.
Lamb Arts
Originally based in London, the gallery arose with the objective to promote an interchange between artists and curatorial practices from Europe and Latin America, mainly in Brazil. Now, with an office located exclusively in São Paulo, Lamb Arts engages with the Brazilian scene participating in the São Paulo Photography Fair for the first time. At the space in Jardim Paulista neighborhood, the gallery usually presents curated exhibitions with contemporary rising artists.
