Actor, director, and playwright. A champion in the fight against racial discrimination and the promotion of Black culture. He is responsible for founding the Teatro Experimental do Negro (TEN), which operated in Rio de Janeiro from 1944 to 1968. This was the first company to advocate for the inclusion of Afro-descendant artists in the Brazilian theatrical landscape.
