Noctiluca
___ "Noctiluca", Mika Takahashi's first solo exhibition in São Paulo. The artist explores the relationship between the kingdoms of life—animalia, plantae, fungi, and archaea—giving viewers the chance to appreciate the watery, ethereal quality the artist uniquely develops in her paintings. Influenced by both Impressionism and Japanese visual traditions, especially the Edo period, her technique is marked by an adaptation of sumi-e, which blends intuitive brushstrokes with overlapping layers of paint. Her works traverse the fields of science and science fiction, dissolving the natural world and exploring relationships between species and their environments. The exhibition features 11 new works and is accompanied by a critical text by Lucas Albuquerque.
