Sāo Paulo, Brazil
The Levante Nacional TROVOA is a collective of visual artists and curators of colour from the five Brazilian regions (North, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and South). So far The Levante has reached eleven states: Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Pará, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Founded in 2017 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from the initial concerns of four young women, the Levante Nacional TROVOA demands urgency in the discussion about the art system in Brazil with special attention to the visibility and insertion of cis and transgender women artists of colour in this circuit.
Our ambitions are to highlight our non-hegemonic productions that derive from colour intersections crossing Indigenous, Black and Asian origins.
