Casa Chama
São Paulo, Brazil
Casa Chama is an NGO founded and coordinated by transvestigender persons since 2018. The organisation has a strong socio-political and cultural profile with the vision to safeguard the emancipation, valorisation and quality of life for trans populations. With the understanding of the lack of basic rights and marginalisation of trans bodies in Brazilian society, the organisation works alongside the public sphere and private actors for legal, economic, psychologic, medical and cultural support structures for the trans community.
From an anti-racist and anti-transphobic position, Casa Chama’s mission is to empower and promote the dignity and longevity of trans lives, by creating and empowering spaces of political, social, artistic and cultural participation. We have a trans perspective that understands the value of alliances with cisgender professionals and allies as a fundamental pillar of the activities and the history of the organisation.
Casa Chama’s motto is “Who takes care is cared for, and who is cared for gives care” which expresses its philosophy of mutual care. We are a diverse team composed mainly of trans persons aiming to promote a plural and dignified world view. Casa Chama works in four areas, psychosocial, legal, cultural and financial autonomy, counting on a network of 270 volunteer and a wide base of allies through which we practice and give care, affect, and exchange.
