A multidisciplinary artist, Nilda Neves (Botuporã, Brazil, 1961) studied accounting and worked as math teacher, retailer, hairdresser, among other occupations, before dedicating herself to the visual arts and literature. Her work is closely linked to memory and oral narrative: each figure, animal or piece of landscape in her canvases corresponds to a tale. Stories from her grandfather's time in Bahia are revealed in curious scenes of outlaw hinterlanders, folkloric characters or everyday life that, together, engender a fantastic universe.
