The work proposes an inverted monument using Dom Pedro I as the base. This was the emperor who declared the independence of Brazil. It is also a way of questioning the independence of colonized countries, a moment that almost always follows a process of annihilation and destruction of colonies. It’s a very fragile process, always on the verge of being destroyed, just like the stickers on the wooden box indicating how to take care of the sculpture: “Fragile”,
“Handle with care”. The model was taken from the painting “Independência ou Morte” by PedroAmérico, which portrays the supposed heroic
