Fredone Fone

Brazil, 1981

About

Fredone Fone was born in Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Rio de Janeiro, in 1981, and lives and works between Serra and Vitória, in Espírito Santo. Much of his work is manual and talks about the dream of owning your house, hip-hop and self-construction as subversive tactics of existence, occupation and survival of the black and peripheral population: which is the majority of manual labourers working in civil construction, and who raise, in a outsourced and precarious way, the walls of a rude city that push them back into the neighborhoods they live in.

Among the national and international exhibitions in which he participated are the individuals "Fredone Fone", at Senac Consolação (São Paulo, 2011), and "Alvenaria", at Espaço Cultural Sesi (Vitória, 2012; and the group shows "Primavera de museus", at Museu Solar Monjardim (Vitória, 2009), and "Denial", at Gama Crea (Cidade do México, 2020).

In 2015, he took part in the artist residency “Performing Art Forum (PAF)” at Saint Erme Outre et Ramecourt, in France, and in 2020, “Habite-Moi”, at Espírito Mundo Residences, in Brussels, Belgium. The artist was recognized with the awards “Prêmio Cultura Hip Hop”, from Edição Preto Ghóez (2010) and the “Prêmio Doggueto”, from Personalidade Hip-Hop (Vitória, 2019).
