Nacha Canvas

Argentina, 1990

Nacha Canvas (Ushuaia, 1990) explores the spatial, temporal and semantic potentialities of language in sculpture. A grouping of stylistic marks singularize her work: the use of heterogeneous materials such as clay, metals and foam rubber; the variation in scale and format allows her to experiment with the shape of that which is rigid and fragile, soft and hard, lasting and transitory; and an intensive work around the evocative power of surfaces as a point of entry toward what is virtual in thought. In this way, her pieces set off from the material play and in the process they become conceptual cyphers, ambiguous devices that without losing their presence in space, they project contradictory forms of existence, creatures that can insert themselves into other narratives and trajectories that range from erotic to archaeological. She lives and works in Buenos Aires. Canvas presented the solo shows Fantasía abstracta (BARRO, 2024) and Aerofósil (Quimera, 2022). Highlights among her group shows include No he visto árboles de tal naturaleza (Fundación Osde, Buenos Aires, 2022), Adentro no hay más que una morada (Museo Moderno, Buenos Aires, 2021) and Flandria (Munar, Buenos Aires, 2021), Hable con ella at Malba (Buenos Aires, 2020), and País imaginado (Museo Moderno, Buenos Aires, 2020).
