Talks: Art as Value

In 2015, SP-Arte in partnership with the Brazilian art magazine, Arte!Brasileiros organized discussions titled Talk: Art as a value. During two days, the panel held debates on latent topics in the contemporary art world. What is at play in the construction of the value of a work? What variables influence art market tendencies and position of artists? How is the identity of an artist constructed? Speakers that were present to discuss these complex questions included: Marcio Fainziliber, President of the Council of the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR); Thomas Galbraith, Managing Director at Paddle8; Paulo Herkenhoff, curator and director of the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) ; Sarah Thornton, writer and sociologist, author of the acclaimed book Seven Days in the Art World and What is an Artist?; the collectors Donald and Mera Rubell, from the Rubell Family Collection, and Simon Watson, art consultant and journalist.

See below the photos and videos of each panel discussion.
